Call for Faculty Development Award Applications
Faculty Development Awards provide support, generally up to $25,000, for talented junior faculty who have encountered unusual professional or personal impediments or obstacles that have hindered their ability to do the substantial research and/or creative work necessary for advancement. Please see the Call for detailed information about the awards, eligibility, deadlines, and the application process. Completed electronic applications are due to the Office of the Vice Provost, Academic Affairs via email to Melanie Fisch no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 24, 2010. 2010 Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award Call for Nominations
The UCSF Faculty Mentoring Program is pleased to solicit nominations for the 2010 Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award. The award recognizes an outstanding senior faculty mentor at UCSF who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to mentoring of faculty in the academic health sciences. Read more
UCSF Ranked #2 in Nation's Best Places to Work in Academia
The Scientist, a magazine for life science professionals, conducted a voluntary readers survey about the best places to work in academia for 2009. UCSF was ranked #2 in the country, behind Princeton. The only other UC campuses in the top 40 were Davis at 27th and UCLA at 33rd. Stanford was ranked at 19th. Read more.

Wellness Grand Round Series
The Wellness Grand Round series is one of the CCFL's initiatives to create a supportive work environment for faculty. This series consists of quarterly one-hour lectures. Some lectures will be keyed to wellness/stress reduction programs for faculty which will be offered at a reduced cost. Dr. Larissa G. Duncan will present the Spring 2010 Lecture, entitled Mindfulness in Daily Life: Coping with Stress by Being Present. The lecture is on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. in HSW 301, on Parnassus. Dr. Duncan is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine and the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Registration for the lecture is encouraged. A mindfulness-based stress reduction course for faculty will be offered starting in late March 2010. Course Information, including description, registration, schedule, fees, and CME credit is now available. You may register for the course directly from this website.
Faculty Development ProgramGrants, Golf, Grand Rounds and Grandkids: Charting Your Course for Retirement
Thursday, February 11, 2010/3-5 p.m./Parnassus, School of Nursing Building, Room N-225
Retirement can take many forms for a UCSF faculty member. This workshop will feature a panel of faculty retirees offering personal experience and practical advice regarding the path toward (and the experience after) retirement. When did they start thinking about how and when to retire? What informational resources did they find most helpful, and what else would have been helpful to know? Who did they turn to with questions for for support? This workshop is relevant for any faculty member who has contemplated retirement. UCSF Human Resources and Benefits experts will be on hand to answer questions and to preview HR's Retirement Readiness series.
